Springtime Allergy Relief!

This time of year in the Piney Woods of East Texas finds just about every stationary object outside coated with a yellow layer of pollen--it is spring pine pollen season. And for allergy sufferers, it is all too often time to load down their body with anti-histamines or prescription allergy medicines.

Most people who take these medications would rather not be--they make you groggy, slow down your digestion, and generally rob you of energy and vigor. I should know, I grew up on prescription allergy meds as a young girl. Without them I literally could not see where I was going because my eyes watered so profusely!

My 10 year old son began having similar symptoms at the start of this year's pine pollen season. Fortunately, we have a natural remedy that was not even available when I was a young girl. Lavender essential oil has some natural anti-histamine-like properties, and can be a very potent tool to battle seasonal allergies. An oil blend that has been VERY effective for our family is called "Valor"--we rub it on the bottom of the feet and right under the nose whenever symptoms are present. It usually works within minutes! Other people find relief with other blends--everyone's body chemistry is different so what works for one may not necessarily work for another. RC (blend) is very helpful for many people's allergies.

I am so glad that my son has a natural way to find relief from allergies! Let me know if you have found any oils or oil blends that work for yours!

Have a lovely spring!

Why are So Many Women Experiencing Chronic Health Problems

Why is it that so many women are experiencing unprecedented health problems? Over my twenty-six year medical career, I am seeing more women come into the office with health histories that include obesity, fibromyalgia, hypothyroid, breast cancer, depression, and many others. They are frequently on multiple toxic pharmaceutical drugs, have had organs ripped out of their body, and many share that they are without hope that things will ever change for the better. Does this sound familiar?

While this may seem hopeless, I have seen many women set free from the bondage of chronic illness. The first thing to realize is that for most, there is simply nothing wrong with them. That's right! Approximately 90% of chronic illnesses are environmentally and/or emotionally induced and for most people the chronic diseases are actually resolvable. For instance, there are chemicals called xeno-estrogens. They are present in just about every sector of our life. They mimic estrogen, a natural hormone which is a prominent hormone in women. When xeno-estrogen is consumed, it turns bodily functions on that should be turned off, and turns off functions that should be turned on. They create havoc in both women and men, but the effects are more profound in women. Curiously, the average sperm count in men has dropped by 50% since the 1940's and xeno-estrogens have been implicated. Even fresh water male fish are seen with eggs growing inside of them. It is present in plastics that leach into our foods and it is in the water that we drink. Also, it contributes to obesity and other diseases such as estrogen induced breast cancer.

his is just one example of how toxic chemicals that in our everyday lives can affect the lives of women. Is there an answer? Yes, absolutely. Unless there have been hormone producing organs removed from the body, there are ways to get healthy and stay that way. There are ways to get rid of the toxic chemicals, lose weight, get the hormones balanced naturally, get off medications. They put THAT in infant Tylenol?

I was cleaning out my medicine cabinet AGAIN yesterday and tossing out things that we no longer use. Now that we have learned to use essential oils in place of over-the-counter medications the cabinet is getting pretty bare! But I did find a bottle of liquid infant acetaminophen (Tylenol) that expired 3 years ago. On a whim, before I tossed it, I decided to stop and read the label. Some of the ingredients I was not familiar with, but a few of them immediately jumped out at me. I find it hard to believe that in ignorance I ever gave this medicine to my babies!

This bottle contained HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS (must be artificial because it just said "flavors"--if natural, they would have specified), artifical colors (Red 33) and PROPYLENE GLYCOL (antifreeze)!!!

I am so grateful that I no longer need to use these kinds of toxic medications for my children. Not only are the "inactive" ingredients toxic, but the drug itself is toxic too. According to a study published in teh 9/20/08 issue of the Lancet, children given acetaminophen (Tylenol) during the first year of life to reduce fever are more likely to develop asthma later on in childhood. These children are also more likely to develop rhinoconjunctivitis and eczema when they reach age 6 to 7. Still, the medical profession says it is the "drug of choice" for fevers. The liver toxicity effects of acetaminophin are also well known.

What do we use for fevers in our family? Young Living Peppermint Oil is pure and very effective for fevers. We use just a couple of drops on the forehead, temples, and back of neck. Idaho Balsam Fir, Eucalyptus radiata, and rosemary are also known to reduce fever. There are also therapeutic blends from Young Living that are not only effective in reducing fever, but are highly anti-bacterial and anti-viral and are a very important addition to the flu fighting arsenal. These include RC, Immupower, Exodus II, Thieves, and Inner Defense. A warm bath with lavender or peppermint can be effective as well.
